Coaching spotlight nora geron
Coach Geron was a fierce competitive Coach that I respect for not only teaching me about being an athlete, but she helped build the confidence in myself that I carry through life. I find myself using her words or techniques with young athletes that I hope will carry on for many years to come.
There are people in your life that touch you, that effect you, that change you. Coach Geron had one of the most profound effects on me. I am not going to deny that she almost broke me, but in the end, she made me stronger. She challenged me and helped instill in me the courage to go toe-to-toe with the most professionally intimidating people I know and truly hold my own. She gave me advice (which she may not even realize she gave me), and I still live with it in my heart. In everything that I do, I hear her words, and I know that she was right. We had a great run on the court. I lived for volleyball in high school, and I will never forget the years playing for Coach Geron, but who she helped shape me into off the court defines her in my eyes, and I will forever be grateful. Thanks, Coach!
Coach Geron!!! You have helped shape my life by expecting MORE! Made me learn to work harder and expect more from myself Sitting on that wall- Wow!!! Practicing the same play over and over teaching us to “get it right” was exactly what we needed I feel truly honored and privileged having you as my coach. You helped create and mold so many athletes and their work ethic for life. Thank You Coach Geron!! Much love
I remember it was Coach Geron's 50th birthday. Yvonne Acosta, Norma Mata, Deanna Moreno, and I decided we were going to try and throw Coach Geron in the showers after volleyball practice. She fought all four us and we were the ones that ended up getting wet. We all laughed afterwards. She is a strong person mentally and physically. She taught all of us perseverance, confidence, and self discipline. Thank You Coach Geron for being tough on us.
Dear Coach Geron, I just want to start off by saying it was such an honor to be taught by one of the best. You inspired me daily. You taught me so much and pushed me to heights I never thought possible. You instilled the values of hard work, discipline and perseverance. You made me stronger, better and inspired me to be a winner. I want to say thank you for trusting my abilities. I trusted your advice. Coach Geron you were to me like fuel is to fire. Thank you for lighting that fire within. And last but not least I just want to quote, “A good coach changes the game, but a great coach changes your life.” Thank you for changing my life. I love you Coach Geron. #9
Coach Geron was my biggest role model, outside of my parents, that I wanted to be just like. She was an educator who was strict but loved you at the same time. She was a genuine person, who loved her athletes. She pushed us to work hard everyday and she taught us how ladies should act. A quote I will never forget and still live by today is “Ladies are seen and not heard.” She instilled confidence in me and made me think I was the greatest defensive player she had. I’ll never forget the great times we had playing for the Pecos Eagles and seeing the making of a State Volleyball Take! I love you Coach for all you’ve done, not only for me but all the young ladies you’ve coached.
